The opening prompt
Make partnership Spades: you and a computer partner (south and north) against two computer opponents (east and west). 13 cards each, spades are trump. Each player bids a number of tricks, nil is allowed, and the side bid is the sum. Must follow suit, and spades cannot be led until broken. Score 10 points per bid trick, 1 per extra trick (bag), minus 100 for every 10 bags, plus or minus 100 for a nil. First side to 250 wins, with a setting for 500. Computers should bid by counting high cards and spades, play to make the side bid, and protect a partner who bid nil. Show the trick area and scoreboard, highlight legal cards, and offer a hint.
